One of the major annual fundraisers for the team has become a regular event for bargain hunting shoppers in Wellington and the Hutt Valley. For the fourth year running CanSurvive Dragon Boat Team have secured an empty premises - in the former Petone Post Office, corner of Brittania and Jackson Streets - to set up shop for less than a week in May. With the generous support of the landlord, and many others who clear out their wardrobes to donate and recycle quality items, the shop is able to offer absolute bargains priced between $2 and $35. Family clothing, designer label wear as well as books, shoes and accessories are offered at the 5 day mini pop-up shop. Many keen shoppers know the value of getting in early, and attend an opening night on May 18 to enjoy the first look over the selection of affordable recycled clothes, while being served a light supper.Tickets for opening night are sought after, with limited availability at just $10 each. Seasonal pop-up shops bring in much needed funds for the team to assist with major competitions, both nationally and internationally. The team needs over $30,000 to continue to train year-round, and compete, offering an opportunity for all keen survivor women to paddle, no matter what their financial circumstances.
